Food Safety & Quality Supervisor

Hyattsville / Landover, Maryland | Full-Time | On-Site
Annual Salary: $80,000–$95,000

Henpen Staffing Consultants is recruiting a Food Safety & Quality (FSQ) Supervisor for a confidential dairy manufacturer. This hands-on leadership role oversees daily laboratory operations, supports food safety and quality programs, and ensures products meet regulatory and customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, train, and develop Lab Technicians; manage schedules and coverage.
  • Oversee daily laboratory operations, testing procedures, equipment, supplies, and departmental spending.
  • Maintain laboratory standard operating procedures and employee training.
  • Support development, implementation, verification, validation, and continuous improvement of the SQF system.
  • Prepare for and support SQF, regulatory, kosher, and other external audits.
  • Drive corrective and preventive actions (CAPA), including investigations of customer complaints.
  • Analyze and report quality metrics, environmental monitoring results, and shelf-life data.
  • Provide laboratory coverage when needed, consistent with applicable labor agreements.
  • Serve as backup to the FSQ Manager.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • At least 2 years of quality assurance experience in food manufacturing, a biological field, or a related field.
  • At least 1 year of supervisory or team leadership experience.
  • SQF Practitioner qualification through certification or experience.
  • Ability to obtain PCQI certification.
  • Strong communication, recordkeeping, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Dairy manufacturing experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in food science, biology, chemistry, or a related field.
  • Experience with GFSI/SQF, HACCP, FSMA, and GMP requirements.
  • Current PCQI certification.

Work Environment

This position works in a manufacturing and laboratory environment that may include cool temperatures, wet or slippery surfaces, and elevated noise levels. Duties include standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting 50–60 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
