Shop Floor Supervisor – Manufacturing

Location: Greater Trenton, NJ Area
Schedule: First Shift | Monday–Friday | 7:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m.
Salary: $75,000–$80,000 plus bonus

Position Overview

A well-established building-products manufacturer is seeking an experienced, hands-on Shop Floor Supervisor to lead and coordinate daily manufacturing activities.

This is a highly visible, 100% shop-floor-based leadership position—not an office-based supervisory role. The Shop Floor Supervisor will work directly with hourly production employees throughout the shift, monitor workflow, resolve problems, reinforce standards, and ensure production priorities are completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule.

The manufacturing environment includes metal roll forming, cutting, welding, machining, assembly, and the installation of metal and plastic hardware for made-to-order building products.

Key Responsibilities

Shop-Floor Leadership and Production

• Maintain a consistent and highly visible leadership presence throughout the manufacturing floor.
• Direct and coordinate the daily activities of hourly production employees.
• Assign and reposition employees based on workload, priorities, skills, bottlenecks, and changing production requirements.
• Monitor production workflow, productivity, quality, safety, housekeeping, and employee performance.
• Identify production delays and bottlenecks and take immediate action to maintain product flow.
• Escalate material, equipment, staffing, quality, and scheduling concerns when additional support is required.
• Ensure production employees remain productive, engaged, and focused throughout the shift.
• Make timely decisions and resolve problems in a fast-moving manufacturing environment.

Employee Leadership and Accountability

• Provide direct, day-to-day leadership to production employees.
• Clearly communicate expectations for safety, quality, productivity, attendance, housekeeping, and workplace conduct.
• Coach employees in real time and promptly address performance or behavioral concerns.
• Recognize strong performance while holding employees accountable when expectations are not met.
• Promote teamwork and cooperation while maintaining clear supervisory authority.
• Establish credibility with employees through fairness, consistency, visibility, and follow-through.

Safety and Quality

• Make employee safety the highest priority in all production activities.
• Observe work practices and immediately correct unsafe behaviors or conditions.
• Ensure compliance with required PPE, machine-safety, material-handling, and operating procedures.
• Confirm that employees follow established manufacturing processes, specifications, and quality requirements.
• Monitor work-in-process and finished-product quality throughout the shift.
• Address recurring defects, workmanship concerns, and deviations from established standards.

Housekeeping and Workplace Standards

• Maintain strong housekeeping and 5S standards throughout assigned production areas.
• Ensure aisles, workstations, equipment, tools, and material-storage areas remain clean, organized, and safe.
• Reinforce standard work and continuous-improvement practices.

Required Qualifications

• At least 5 years of hands-on manufacturing experience.
• Approximately 3–5 years of frontline manufacturing leadership experience.
• Previous experience as a Production Supervisor, Manufacturing Supervisor, Shop Supervisor, Team Leader, Lead Person, or similar role.
• Demonstrated ability to lead hourly production employees directly on the manufacturing floor.
• Strong understanding of manufacturing workflow, safety, quality, productivity, and employee accountability.
• Ability to identify production problems and make timely decisions.
• Strong verbal communication, coaching, and interpersonal skills.
• Basic computer skills for reviewing production information and completing required documentation.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in building products, metal fabrication, roll forming, cutting, welding, machining, or assembly manufacturing.
• Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, 5S, standard work, or continuous-improvement principles.
• Technical training, associate degree, or bachelor’s degree is a plus but not required.

Important Position Requirements

• Must be comfortable spending the entire shift actively working on the production floor.
• Must be available for the first-shift schedule of 7:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
• Must be able to commute to the Greater Trenton, NJ area.
• Relocation assistance is not available.
