Experienced Diesel Mechanics are needed to maintain and repair heavy industrial and mining equipment in the Detroit area. This role focuses on full diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repair of heavy machinery used in industrial operations.
This is not a fleet truck or basic service position. The role requires mechanics capable of performing complete equipment diagnostics, major repairs, and rebuilds.
Schedule
• Day Shift: 6:00 AM – 4:00 PM
• Night Shift: 8:00 PM – 6:00 AM
• Overtime available
Rotating Saturdays
• Half the team works every other Saturday
• Schedule alternates between 6 days one week and 5 days the next
Compensation
• $32.30 per hour – Diesel Mechanic
• $35.30 per hour – Master Mechanic (with certification)
• Full-time direct hire
• Overtime available
Responsibilities
• Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and rebuild diesel-powered heavy equipment
• Maintain equipment including:
• haul trucks
• loaders
• cranes
• conveyors
• pumps
• bulldozers
• compressors
• Repair hydraulic and electrical systems
• Perform preventative maintenance and equipment inspections
• Dismantle and reassemble heavy machinery components
• Weld and repair structural components when required
• Interpret technical drawings and service manuals
• Use diagnostic systems such as CAT SIS
• Complete work logs and maintenance documentation
• Follow all safety procedures and regulations
Required Qualifications
• High School Diploma or GED
• 5+ years of heavy equipment diesel mechanic experience
• Experience working in industrial, mining, or construction environments
• Certification in Diesel Mechanics, Heavy Equipment Mechanics, or CAT programs
• Experience troubleshooting hydraulic systems and mechanical components
• Ability to repair engines, transmissions, and major equipment systems
• Experience using hoists, pneumatic tools, and diagnostic equipment
• Ability to lift 50+ pounds and work in industrial environments
Preferred Experience
• CAT certification
• Experience using CAT SIS diagnostic system
• Arc or MIG welding experience (Arc welding preferred)
• Experience working on:
• dozers
• loaders
• excavators
• dump trucks
• Line boring experience
• Underground welding experience
Important Notes
• This role requires advanced diesel mechanics capable of full equipment repair and diagnostics
• Not suitable for technicians who only perform tire service, oil changes, or basic maintenance
• No visa sponsorship available
