Mechanical Superintendent / Maintenance Planner

A growing petrochemical manufacturing operation is seeking an experienced Mechanical Superintendent / Planner to lead and coordinate plant mechanical maintenance activities in a high-hazard, PSM-regulated environment.

This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for supervising approximately 7 maintenance technicians and contractors while planning and executing both preventive and breakdown maintenance. The facility operates sophisticated rotating and process equipment including turbines, compressors, centrifuges, high-pressure steam systems, and other critical assets supplied by leading global manufacturers.


Position Overview

The Mechanical Superintendent will plan, schedule, and supervise all plant mechanical maintenance activities to maximize equipment uptime, reliability, and operational efficiency while maintaining strict compliance with safety and regulatory standards.

This individual must bring strong hands-on mechanical depth combined with leadership capability and CMMS expertise.


Key Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise plant mechanical maintenance technicians and contractors
• Plan and schedule preventive and corrective maintenance activities
• Provide field supervision for routine and emergency breakdown work
• Develop, implement, and optimize CMMS utilization
• Coordinate with vendor engineers and external service providers
• Drive improvements in productivity, reliability, and equipment performance
• Implement maintenance best practices and reliability-centered strategies
• Coordinate with production to minimize downtime and optimize scheduling
• Manage spare parts inventory and control stock levels
• Maintain detailed maintenance records in compliance with PSM and internal standards
• Train apprentices and technicians in maintenance and reliability practices
• Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement


Qualifications

• Associate Degree in Engineering or equivalent technical background
• 15+ years of maintenance experience in petrochemical or chemical plant environments
• Strong hands-on mechanical background (millwright experience highly preferred)
• Direct experience working on turbines, compressors, pumps, and rotating equipment
• Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex mechanical issues
• Strong knowledge of maintenance best practices and reliability methodologies
• Experience developing and managing CMMS systems
• Understanding of PSM, safety, and environmental regulations
• Strong analytical and decision-making capabilities
• Ability to collaborate effectively across maintenance and operations teams


Work Environment

• Industrial plant environment with exposure to process equipment and chemicals
• Must be able to lift, walk, climb, and stand for extended periods
• Willingness to support off-hours or emergency maintenance as required
