A long-established precision metal stamping manufacturer in Bethlehem, PA is seeking an experienced Senior Tool & Die Maker to join its close-knit, high-performance production team. The facility produces tight-tolerance stamped components for critical applications and values craftsmanship, reliability, and collaboration.
The role reports directly to the Plant Manager and is key to maintaining and improving die performance, part quality, and equipment uptime. The ideal candidate brings extensive hands-on experience in progressive die design, build, troubleshooting, and maintenance within a high-volume stamping environment.
Design, build, assemble, and fit progressive stamping dies using blueprints and CAD models.
Set up and operate manual and CNC machinery (mills, lathes, grinders, EDM) to fabricate die components to exact tolerances.
Troubleshoot production press issues, identify causes of part defects or tool wear, and implement corrective actions.
Conduct die tryouts and inspections to verify dimensional accuracy and performance.
Modify existing dies per engineering change notices or process improvement feedback.
Apply GD&T, material specifications, and stamping tolerances in all design and repair work.
Maintain accurate records of die maintenance, tool changes, and revision history.
Mentor junior toolmakers or apprentices and promote a culture of precision and safety.
Collaborate with engineering, quality, and production teams to optimize die performance and part consistency.
10+ years of progressive experience as a Tool & Die Maker in metal stamping operations.
Demonstrated expertise with multi-station progressive dies for tight-tolerance, high-volume parts.
Proficient in reading complex blueprints, tool designs, and CAD drawings.
Skilled in manual machining and operation of CNC mills, surface grinders, and wire/sinker EDM.
Strong understanding of die clearances, punch alignment, timing, and carrier strip progression.
Familiarity with coil-feed systems, high-speed presses, and in-die sensors highly preferred.
Working knowledge of CAD/CAM software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Mastercam).
Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills under pressure.
Completion of a certified Tool & Die Maker apprenticeship preferred.
