Senior Electrical Test Technician

Location: Massachusetts (On-site Only)

Compensation: $90,000 – $100,000 base
Citizenship: U.S. Citizens Only (Government Contract Compliance)


The Opportunity

A leading U.S.-based manufacturer of engine-driven industrial generators, chillers, and heat pumps is seeking a hands-on Senior Electrical Test Technician to support electrical and mechanical testing, diagnostics, and process improvement activities within their manufacturing facility.

This position is critical in ensuring that all power systems meet rigorous functional, quality, and performance standards. The successful candidate will perform electrical checkouts, troubleshoot wiring and control systems, collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams, and oversee testing for high-performance industrial equipment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct diagnostic electrical, temperature, pressure, and mechanical testing of industrial equipment.

  • Learn and operate test instruments including DMM, PQA, oscilloscopes, and other diagnostic tools.

  • Perform electrical checkout on products and oversee testing of chillers and related systems.

  • Lead or assist in failure analysis, non-destructive troubleshooting, and corrective action documentation.

  • Establish and perform quality control inspection points for product test phases (STX, DTX).

  • Collaborate closely with engineering, product development, and manufacturing teams to resolve design or assembly issues.

  • Create and revise production documentation, including test procedures, work instructions, and calibration records.

  • Coordinate with metrology vendors to manage the calibration program and tool certification schedule.

  • Analyze, troubleshoot, and repair electrical wiring, harnesses, PCBs, and control systems.

  • Read and interpret schematics, ladder diagrams, and wire run lists accurately.

  • Contribute to developing test methods, validation plans, and process documentation within the Manufacturing Execution System (MES).

  • Train junior technicians and ensure safe, accurate execution of all test activities.

  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, reliability, and quality.

  • Participate in technical meetings and cross-department collaboration sessions.


Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum 7 years’ experience as an Electrical or Test Technician performing circuit analysis, troubleshooting, and repairs.

  • At least 3 years’ experience in final test of industrial or heavy electrical equipment; power generation background strongly preferred.

  • Associate’s degree in Engineering Technology or related discipline preferred (not required).

  • Certifications such as IPC-A-610, IPC/WHMA-A-620, and J-STD-001 are a plus.

  • Proficient using electrical test equipment for circuit diagnostics and component failure analysis.

  • Demonstrated ability to work hands-on in a manufacturing, assembly, or prototyping environment.

  • Familiar with three-phase, single-phase, and DC power circuits, control logic, and industrial wiring systems.

  • Computer proficiency including MS Office and basic networking knowledge.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; capable of writing detailed test reports.

  • Motivated, team-oriented professional passionate about quality, reliability, and continuous improvement.


Preferred Knowledge

  • Familiarity with engines, generators, compressors, and mechanical systems.

  • Understanding of heat transfer principles, refrigeration, and HVAC applications.

  • Prior exposure to government or defense manufacturing environments a plus.
