A market-leading manufacturer is seeking a Senior Commodity Manager to own strategy and execution for high-impact, global commodities. You will drive supplier partnerships, cost/cash performance, quality, delivery, and technology roadmaps while enabling new product introductions (NPI) and reducing supply risk. This role is ideal for a strategic negotiator who thrives at the intersection of sourcing, operations, and engineering.
Lead complex, auditable strategic sourcing and contract negotiations; select and steer a supply base to deliver cost, cash, service, and technology objectives.
Build, assess, and manage supplier performance (quality, delivery, flexibility, total cost); conduct site audits, credit/organizational reviews, and KPI reporting.
Partner with R&D/Engineering on NPI: qualify new/updated materials, coordinate samples, and lead material approvals with Inspection/Quality.
Develop and execute commodity strategies, transitioning business to strategic suppliers and ensuring a smooth impact to customers.
Set inventory targets; forecast demand swings; minimize obsolete/scrap; lead and expand VMI programs.
Resolve escalations quickly—troubleshoot quality and continuity-of-supply issues to avoid interruptions and adverse costs.
Monitor market, logistics, and environmental factors; brief leadership on cost/availability trends and risk mitigations.
Ensure trade compliance (Country of Origin, HTS codes) and support international shipping requirements.
Provide daily guidance to buyers; drive cross-functional alignment with Production, Quality, Finance, and Logistics.
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Engineering, or related field.
7+ years managing complex procurement contracts, vendor negotiations, and sourcing of goods/services.
Demonstrated leadership and supplier-relationship skills; expert negotiator with strong written/verbal communication.
Working knowledge of mechanical/electrical components, manufacturing processes, and specialized analyses.
Experience with MRP and preferably JD Edwards (JDE); advanced Microsoft Office skills.
Project leadership from concept through implementation; domestic/international travel as needed.
