Mill Supervisor (Surface Operations)

Lyons, Kansas · Manufacturing
Mechanics (Mine)
•    Need to be safety conscious.
•    Mining and MSHA experience would be great but not expected.
•    May be on surface or underground in the mine – mechanic classification is not specific to mine or surface departments
•    To work in the mine (which is a requirement) they have to pass an ATF explosives background check – no felonies or misdemeanors with possible jail time >1 yr, no dishonorable discharge, no current or previous illegal drug use, no mental problems / committed
•    2nd shift is the current open position. 1:30 pm – 9:30 pm.  M-F base, but likely fair bit of OT and weekend work (mostly Saturdays).  On call duties and expectations.  Opportunities for other shifts may be available when vacancies occur – selections are made based on a matrix of skills and abilities, including safety performance, attendance, and attitude / communication / etc.
•    Entry pay rate is $28.40 / hr for a mechanic C (minus 50 cents during 90-day probationary period).  There are skill-based pay tiers that can provide opportunity for advancement within the mechanic classification as certain experience and skills are demonstrated.  This generally takes time of a year or two per tier bump unless they come with very relevant experience in which case that can occasionally be accelerated.  Mechanic B is currently $29.24, A is $30.38, Master is $32.41 (Master also includes and additional test and demonstration of being able to lead and supervise a crew).  50 cent shift differential for all hours worked from 5pm to 5am.  Also offer production incentive pay monthly based on tons hoisted per shift.  Target is 4% of wages for hours worked that month, but based on production can be 0% to 10%.  Good benefits package including 401(k) matching, etc.
 A few skill highlights:
•    Looking for ability to troubleshoot problems, not just part changers.
•    Fabrication skills (cutting, welding, etc) is quite valuable, but is not a majority of the job – they should not expect to fabricate daily, but more as needed to repair – they should be able to weld rust...
•    Diesel mechanic experience is quite valuable and other mobile equipment maintenance including low voltage DC electrical and hydraulics.
•    If they have at least basic AC electrical experience and knowledge that is helpful, but they are not expected to be electricians – need to be able to reset 480V buckets and know when to call an electrician…
•    Experience with bearings, shafts, gearboxes, etc is applicable experience, especially with material handling equipment – belt conveyors, screw conveyors, bucket elevators, etc.
