Sr. Health and Safety Manager (Environmental)

SUMMARY
The Senior Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager is responsible for leading the organization’s coordinated EHS strategy to address all environmental health and safety matters by establishing standardized EHS programs and policies for the Company. This includes the development of a systematic and organized approach to complying with Environmental Health and Safety regulations with a secondary responsibility of reducing the operations carbon footprint.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Work across the organization to develop and promote a strong behavior-based, employee-driven Safety First culture as a foundational element of the overall company culture. Oversee and assist to develop communications, training, and processes that communicate Safety as our #1 Operational Objective.
  • Leadership and continued development of our Safety First Process and all key metrics to track and evaluate job site safety trends and leading risk indicators. Collaborate with Senior Leadership, Human Resources, and risk management to develop and implement corrective measures, provide area expertise, analysis, audit, and/or investigation of safety practices and training.
  • This position requires communication with employees at all levels including Senor Leadership, each business unit, and multiple regulatory agencies.
  • Evaluate EHS processes, program gaps, and risk assessments.
  • Develop and implement policies & procedures to improve safety practices and compliance with applicable local and federal regulations and company goals.
  • Provide administrative and technical direction to employees and provide updates on all corporate safety and health processes, procedures, and policies.
  • Assume a leadership role with incident investigations and facilitate the communication of investigation findings as appropriate.
  • Perform project job site inspections and work with field leaders to improve safety.
  • Review all safety documentation/reports for accuracy and completeness; ensure all required documents are forwarded to the appropriate governmental agencies per regulations and to the company insurance carrier per their requirements.
  • Conduct EHS audits, inspections, hazard assessments and investigations as required and make recommendations based off findings.
  • Manage the Workers Compensation program, monitor treatment for appropriateness, monitor fees, track injuries, and provide metrics to management.

Supervises Safety Manager.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • State or National EHS training Certification(s).
  • Ten (10) years industry experience with demonstratable business results and growth in the areas of employee safety and monitored regulatory metrics.
  • Experience in developing, setting, and training to the latest EHS standards.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work in both a team and independent environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; strong team player focused on internal partners as well as external customers.
  • Ability to travel 80% - 100% across multiple states and facilities.
